Alondra tiene un hermano mayor, que acaba de cumplir 4 años, y que la quiere muchísimo. No pasa un día sin que le diga: "Te amo mucho, Alondrita." (y derrita a su mamá : ) Estamos contentos de que se quieran y oramos para que sean muy buenos amigos siempre. Obviamente Timo tiene sus momentos en que preferiría que su mamá lo tuviera a upa a él y no a la hermana, pero por lo general está feliz con la nueva integrante. Acá unas fotos de los dos, y una de Alondra vestida de pirata para el cumple de Timo (más fotos del cumple aquí). ¡Me encantan mis hijitos!

Alondra has an older brother that just turned 4 years old, and that loves her a lot. Not a day goes bye without him telling her, "I love you, Alondrita!" (and making his mommy melt!) We are thrilled with so much love and pray they will be the best of friends for ever. Obviously Timo has some moments when he would prefer his mother to carry him instead of his sister, but in general he is happy with the new addition to the family.

Nuestra cámara dejó de funcionar hace ya muchos días, por eso la falta de fotos de Alondra. El otro día pudimos comprar una nueva, así que esperen ver muchas fotos porque vamos a tener que recuperar los días perdidos.

Our camera died days ago, and we were picture starved! We were able to buy another one, so expect pictures of Alondra to make up for the lost days!

 

 

 

 

PROVISION

Desde un principio supe que iba a escribir esta entrada, así que me alegra que hoy sea el día en el que puedo contales que ¡Dios proveyó todo el dinero que necesitamos para pagar la operación de Alondra! Y esto es una muestra más de que tenemos un Dios fiel, que siempre provee todo lo que necesitamos para hacer lo que él nos pide que hagamos.

Algunos nos preguntaron cuánto salió todo. El costo, redondeado, de la cirugía y el hospital fue de U$17.000 dólares. Sabíamos que nuestro seguro médico no cubría nada de esto, al igual que sabíamos que Dios si lo iba a cubrir.

Estamos TAN agradecidos a tantos de ustedes que ofrendaron y dieron sacrificialmente para que Alondra pueda ser operada. Nosotros estamos maravillados por tanto amor y tanto apoyo. Sabemos que todos los que dieron lo hicieron para el Señor y que él les va a recompensar, y con generosidad.

El Señor proveyó todo lo que necesitamos. Además de la plata para la operación nos dió un lugar y un auto en Singapur, los mejores médicos en la región (¡sin cargo!), una abuela para que nos cuidara, oraciones y aliento de muchísima gente, paz y fe cuando las cosas no iban bien, todas las cosas de bebé que podríamos llegar a necesitar, y una cantidad enorme de amor para darle a nuestra hija. Y la lista podría seguir. ¡No hay ningún otro dios cómo nuestro Dios!

I've been knowing I was going to write this post since this all started, so I'm glad today is the day when I can tell that God has provided for all the costs of Alondra's surgery! And I'm sharing this as a declaration that we have a faithful God, who will always provide for what he has asked us to do.

Some of you have asked how much was it. In round numbers, the cost of Alondra's surgery and hospital stay was about U$17,000. We knew from the start our insurance was not covering any of it, but we also knew God was going to provide.

We are SO grateful to so many of you who have contributed to this. Friends from all over the word gave sacrificially and it has been amazing and humbling to be on the receiving end. We know you all gave as for the Lord, and we know He will reward you!

God has indeed provided. Besides the money to pay for the operation He also provided with a place to stay in Singapore, a car to drive, the best doctors in the region (at no charge!), a grandma to look after us, prayers and encouragement from many, many people, peace and faith when things didn't look good, all the baby things and clothes we ever needed, and so much love to pour on our baby girl. This list could go on and on. There is no other god like our God.

Dos meses / Two Months

¡Alondra cumplió dos meses! Y todavía hay dias en los que no puedo creer que tengo una hijita. Es preciosa y charleta y es hermoso tenerla en casa, sana, contenta. Le estoy escribiendo algo especialmente para ella, pero mientras tanto y de regalo para Alondra, le dejo algo que le escribí a su hermano cuando nació. ¡Cuánto te quiero hija!

Desde lo más oscuro del mar
te rescató la marea de su amor
y te trajo suave y lento hasta la orilla,
donde me había sentado a esperar

Y de repente cambió el cielo de color,
el sol te cubrió de luz y te abrazé

Alondra is two months old! And there are still days where I have to stop and convince myself I have a little daughter. She is cute and talkative, and it's so beautiful to have her home, healthy, happy. What you see up there in Spanish is a song I wrote for Timo, that I'm posting while Alondra waits for hers. Sorry English readers, I barely can write a blog in English, so I'm not even going to try to translate a poem!

Adiós. Goodbye

  Decirle chau a mi mamá nunca se hace más fácil. Y hace un rato la llevamos al aeropuerto, y sigue sin ser fácil.
Fue un regalo tan grande haber podido tenerla este mes. No se qué hubieramos hecho sin su ayuda. Pero el Señor sabía que la necesitábamos. Y ahora la voy a extrañar. Y no tanto porque cocinaba, lavaba y planchaba (bueno, por eso un poco también!) pero porque me encanta tenerla cerca. Seguramente ella lo desmienta porque es ante todo humilde, pero mi mamá es muy especial. Es sabia. Es sacrificada. Es buena. Ama al Señor más que a nosotros. Enseña y aprende. Puede pasarse horas jugando a los piratas o submarinos. Sabe abrazar a hijas y nietas. Es generosísima. Ama a mi papá. Cocina bien. Es mi amiga... Y podría seguir y seguir.
Ojalá mis hijos algún día me quieran tanto como yo la quiero a ella.

Saying good bye to my mom never gets easier. We took her to the airport a while ago and is still hard.
It was such a gift to have her here with us this month. I don't know what we would have done without her. But the Lord knew we needed her. And now I'm going to miss her. And not so much because she cooked, cleaned and ironed (well, I will miss that quite a bit too!) but because I love having her near by.
She will probably deny it because she is humble most of all, but she is very special. She is wise. She sacrifices herself for others. She is good. She loves God more than she loves us. She teaches and she learns. She can spend hours playing pirates or submarines. She cuddles little girls extreamly well. She is very generous. She loves my Dad. She cooks well. She is my friend... And I could go on and on.
I just hope my kids will one day love me as much as I love her.

Lo peor ya pasó / The worst is over...

Empiezo con el parte médico. Hoy fuimos a ver al cardiólogo acá en Kuching. Le hizo un ecocardiograma y nos mostró como fluye la sangre por la conexión que le pusieron. Genial. El título de esta entrada es una frase que nos dijo el doctor cuando le preguntamos cómo seguir cuidando a Alondra de acá en más. Dijo: "Lo peor ya pasó. Lo más grave fue antes de la operación. Ahora ya está bien." Se imaginan que felices nos pone escuchar eso.
Por supuesto que sabemos que lo peor todavía no pasó. Alondra va a necesitar varias cirugías más. Si todo va bien, la próxima va a ser cuando tenga unos 12 kilos. Probablemente tenga unos 3 o 4 años para ese entonces. Esa operación va a ser a corazón abierto, y van a corregir los problemas que tiene en el corazón. Van a tener que ponerle un conducto y, como este conducto no va a crecer con ella, van a tener que cambiarlo varias veces durante su vida. Si, ya se que es terrible solamente pensar en eso. Pero damos gracias porque lo que tiene puede ser operado.
Cuando oren por Alondra, oren para que crezca sana. Oren para que la conexión que tiene ahora no se bloquee y haga bien su trabajo. Y oren para que el Señor nos de sabiduría para saber qué cosas puede o no puede hacer Alondra. Es fácil sobreprotegerla, pero también tenemos que ser sabios.
¿Les dije que estamos felices? La Biblia dice que le dejemos nuestras preocupaciones a Dios, porque él se interesa por nosotros. Así que eso es lo que elegimos hacer. El saber que Dios se interesa por nosotros nunca deja de maravillarme.

Well, first the medical report. Had a good visit with Dr. Martin, the Cardiologist here in Kuching. He showed us how Alondra's blood flows through the shunt they did, brilliant. The title of this entry is a phrase he said when I asked about life from now on. He said, "the worst is over, the most critical period was before the surgery, she is fine now." Were we happy to hear that!
Of course we know the worst is not over quite yet. Alondra will have to have several more surgeries. If all goes well, the next one will be when she is about 12kg. She will probably be 3 or 4 years old by then. That would be open heart surgery, and they will correct the problems in her heart. They will have to put a conduit in her heart, and because this conduit will not grow with her, it will have to be replaced later on as needed. Yes, I know, it's daunting to think about it. But it's much better to be thankful that what she has can actually be fixed!
So, as you pray for Alondra, pray that she will be healthy in every way. Pray that the shunt she has won't block and will continue to do it's job well. And pray that the Lord will give us wisdom on what can and can't she do. It's easy to be overprotective at times, but we need to be wise as well.
Did we mention we are so happy! The Bible says to give all our cares and worried to the Lord, for He cares about us (1 Peter 5:7). So that is what we are choosing to do. And to know that God cares so much about us blows my mind!

Cazando/Chasing

Alondra está empezando a sonreír bastante, así que andamos con la cámara tratando de cazar una foto de ella con sonrisa. Prometo ponerla en cuanto lo logremos. Lo demás sigue bien. Ella disfrutando a su abuela y su abuela disfrutándosela.

Alondra is starting to smile quite a bit, so we are trying to get a picture of her and her smile. I promise to upload it as soon as we manage to. Everything else is well. Alondra is enjoying her grandma and her grandma is enjoying her.
