Mañana / Tomorrow
Saquen las tijeras y empiecen a hacer papel picado, porque ¡mañana vuelve Alondra del hospital! ¡Porque para Dios no hay nada imposible!Alondra sigue respirando y comiendo bien. Los médicos están muy contentos con lo que ven y las enfermeras no pueden creer la velocidad de la recuperación. Yo creo que si supieran cuánta gente está orando por Alondra, no tendrían nada de que sorprenderse. (Hablando de las enfermeras, son gente preciosa que cuidaron tan bien a mi hijita, no se como empezar a darles gracias.)
Asi que mañana, si Dios quiere, Alondra va a estar en casa. Va a ser raro no tener que ir al hospital, raro pero bueno. ¡Estamos felices y agradecidos! Sigo mañana... voy a empezar mi última noche de sueño corrido :)

Alondra is breathing and eating great. Doctors are happy with what they see and the nurses can't believe she'll be going home so fast. If they knew how many people are praying for her, they will have no reason to be surprised at all. (Speaking of nurses, these were fantastic ladies that took really good care of Alondra. I don't know how to start to thank them.)
So, tomorrow, God willing, Alondra will be home. It's going to be strange not to have to go to the hospital anymore. Strange and really good.
We are happy and thankful! I'll tell you more tomorrow. Right now I need to start my last night of undisturbed sleep : )

Hoy / Today
Hoy hace una semana que internamos a Alondra. Y fue un buen día para Alondra y para su mamá. Alondra tuvo tubos durante la mañana, pero a la tarde se los sacaron y no se los volvieron a poner. Hoy a la noche tomo su primer mamadera (hasta ahora tenía suero o le daban leche por la sonda) y la dejé durmiendo muy contenta. Todavía no la pude tener a upa, pero la doctora (la dr. Tan, que ya se curo!)me prometió sacarle la última cánula mañana para que la pueda agarrar. Lo mejor de todo es que ya empezaron a hablar del darle el alta. ¡Falta poco!
Oren para que siga respirando bien, y comiendo bien. Los análisis muestran que tiene una bacteria que es resistente a los antibióticos que le estaban dando, pero por ahora no le van a dar otros. Lo bueno es que no tiene nada de fiebre. Oren para que siga así y pueda combatir la bacteria solita.
Algunos deben haber orado por mi después de leer mi mensaje anoche. La cuestión es que hoy no me costo tanto irme, menos sabiendo que mañana la voy a poder tener a UPA!! A los que oraron por esto, muchas gracias.

It's been a week today since Alondra was first hospitalized. Today was another good day. She had some tubes for air pressure on and off during the morning, but in the afternoon they took them off and didn't put them back on. Tonight she had her first bottle feed since the operation (since then it had been only IV and tube feedings) and she was really good at gulping it all. When I left she was sleeping soundly. The doctor (this is Dr. Tan, she is back!!) promised she will take the last port out tomorrow so I will get to cuddle her. Best of all was that doctors are starting to talk about sending her home. Not long now!Please continue praying Alondra will breathe well on her own, and will continue to eat well. Some lab work showed she has a bacteria that is resistant to the antibiotics she was taking. Doctors have decided not to give her more meds but let her fight it on her own. She has no fever, so that is good. Please pray her body will be able to fight the bacteria and she will continue to improve.
Some of you must have prayed for me after last night's update, because today it was a lot easier to come back home, especially knowing that tomorrow I will get to HOLD HER!! So, whoever you are, thanks for praying!

Sanando / Healing
Una de las cosas que menos me gusta de todo esto es tener que irme del hospital y que Alondra se tenga que quedar. Yo se que va a estar bien cuidada y hasta tengo el suficiente sentido común como para darme cuenta de que tengo que dormir en algún momento. Pero igual me cuesta irme, en especial en días como hoy cuando me mira irme con esos ojos enormes que tiene. Todavía estaría llorando si no fuera por la voz de Jesús, que me dice que no me preocupe, que él se queda.
Novedades. Cuando llegamos esta mañana nos puso contentos ver a Alondra respirando sin ninguna ayuda. Pero después de un rato uno de los doctores pensó que sería mejor volver a ponerle el oxígeno. Es verdad que hacen que respire más fácil, pero los tubos son muy incómodos.
Aún así, está mucho mejor. Hoy a la tarde la pasaron de terapia intensiva a otra sala de terapia para bebés. Hoy también le sacaron muchas de las sondas que tenía. Mañana van a probar de dejarla respirar por si sola otra vez, y tal vez, un gran tal vez, me van a dejar tenerla a upa otra vez. ¡Lo que les va a costar muchísimo es hacer que la vuelva a poner en la cuna!
Sigo orando por todos los detalles que se necesitan curar en estos días. Gracias por sumarse.

If there is one thing i really really don't like about all this is having to leave the hospital and leave Alondra there. I know that she is well cared for, and even my common sense says I need to go home and get some sleep. But I still hate leaving, especially in days like today when she lays there, awake, looking at me with those big deep eyes she has. I would still be crying if it wasn't for Jesus' voice deep inside saying, "Don't worry, I'm staying here with her."
Ok. Now for the update. When we arrived this morning, Alondra had only one tube coming out of her nose. We were delighted! She was breathing on her own and all the numbers in the screen were all right. But during the day one of the doctors felt it was better for her to have the tubes in again. They do make it easier for her to breathe, but they are very uncomfortable otherwise.
Later today Alondra went form ICU to NICU(N is for neo natal). That is good news, because it means she needs a bit less intensive care. Many lines came out today as well, as she is taking less medication. Tomorrow they will try letting her breathe on her own. And maybe, maybe, maybe, I will get to hold her again. They are going to have a hard time making me put her back in the cot!
I continue to pray for all the little things in her body that need to heal. Do join me!

Encaminada / On the way
Alondra tuvo un buen día. A la mañana temprano le sacaron el respirador y reaccionó bien. Ahora solo tiene una sonda que regula la cantidad de oxígeno. Si todo sigue bien, ya mañana le sacan eso también y le ponen otra más chiquita.
También hoy le empezaron a dar leche a través de una sonda directa al estómago. La idea es incrementar la cantidad de leche de a poquito, y si todo va bien ya llegaría al fin de semana con la cantidad de leche que acostumbraba comer y por boca.
Hay tantas cosas que tienen que regularse y ajustarse, todo en un cuerpo tan chiquito.
Lo lindo de hoy fue que ya abre un poco los ojos y está despierta un ratito, le cantamos unas canciones y se vuelve a dormir. Todavía hay muchas cosas que le duelen y la incomodan, pero en general es un gusto ver que se va poniendo bien.
Nos sentimos privilegiados de tenerlos a todos ustedes orando del otro lado, ¡Gracias!

Alondra had a good day today. Early in the morning they took the respirator out, and she reacted well. They only kept the oxygen tubes in her nose to add some oxygen to the air she breathes. After a few hours, her lungs got used to the new situation and now she breathes the same air we all breathe, without the need of adding any oxygen! Hopefully tomorrow they will take these tubes out as well.
Today they also started giving her some milk through a tube that brings it straight to her stomach. They'll increment the amount of milk little by little, and if everything goes well, she'll be feeding normally by the end of the week.
Nice thing today was seeing her wake up and open her eyes. Of course she isn't happy about all the tubes that are holding her from being free, but we sing some songs to her and comfort her, and then she goes back to sleep. It's such a joy to see her improving!
We are privileged to have you praying for her. Thanks a lot!

Hoy Martes / Tuesday
Uno de estos días me voy a sentar a escribir y contarles cómo estamos viviendo todo este momento. Por ahora, alcanzo nada más a contarles las novedades del día. Pero sepan que sus oraciones son las que están moviendo las manos de Dios. Sus oraciones y el amor del Señor.
Alondra sigue estable. Hoy a la tarde abrió un poco los ojos y estuvo despierta un buen rato. Eso es bueno porque los médicos quieren ver cómo reacciona todo cuando está despierta. Pero no es tan bueno que se mueva mucho porque tiene cables por todos lados. Esta noche va a estar con el respirador al mínimo y mañana van a ver de sacárselo. Oren por esto, para que su corazón y sus pulmones puedan funcionar bien por si mismos. Oren también para que no tengan que volver a entubarla, y que las sondas que tiene ahora no la lastimen mucho.
Estos son días bastante críticos y es difícil ver a Alondra así. Pero el Señor no falta a sus promesas, y con la prueba también nos da todo lo que estamos necesitando para pasarla, especialmente paz.
Hoy fue un gran día porque llegó la abuela Mimí! No hubo problemas con las conexiones y el Señor la cuidó en el largo viaje. Ya se nota la diferencia con tenerla cerca. Timo especialmente, casi que no lo puede creer. Gracias Señor.
Sigan orando. Seguimos mañana.

One of these days I'll have a bit of time to tell you more about what's going on inside us during this time. For now I'm only able to update you on what happened today. But please know that your prayers are moving God's hands. Your prayers and His amazing love.
Alondra is stable. This afternoon she opened her eyes a little bit. Doctors were glad, since this lets them monitor her and see how she is reacting. It's not so good that she wants to move around, because she has so many cables and things attached everywhere. Tonight she is on the minimum setting on the respirator, and maybe they will take it out tomorrow morning. Please pray for this. Pray that her heart and lungs will work well on their own. And pray they won't need to put the respirator back in and that the one she has now won't hurt her too much on the inside.
These few days are critical, and it's hard to see Alondra like this. But the Lord always fulfills his promises and with this trial He is also giving us everything we need, especially peace.
Today was a great day because Grandma arrived! She had not trouble making her connections and the Lord looked after her in the long trip. We can already tell the difference of having her here. Especially Timo, he can hardly believe it! Thanks, Lord.

A la Mañana Siguiente... / The Next Morning
¡Hola a todos!
Una nota cortita para decirles que Alondra pasó la noche muy bien.
Las primeras 24 o 48 horas tiene que usar respirador hasta que sus pulmones se acostumbren al nuevo flujo de sangre, que es mas elevado como resultado de la operación, pero esta mañana empezaron a bajar el respirador para ver como respondía, y gracias a Dios, ya empieza a respirar por si sola de a poquito
¡Él está trabajando!
Mas: no tiene mas fiebre.

Post Op
Mi princesa de labios color rosa se está recuperando de a poquito. Tuvimos un susto esta tarde cuando cayeron de repente todos los números, pero ahora está todo estable. Le hicieron una transfusión de sangre, y sigue sedada por ahora. Mañana al mediodía van a tratar de sacarle el respirador a ver qué pasa. El cirujano está tranquilo, dice que todo esto es normal. El pediatra siempre está preocupado, dice que las primeras 48 horas son críticas. Es difícil saber a quién creerle. Pero nuestra confianza está en el Señor, creador del cielo, la tierra y de nuestra pequeña Alondra. Él nos dice: "No tengan miedo, crean solamente".
El médico me mandó a casa a dormir, así que voy a obedecer. Mañana volvemos temprano al hospital, y en algún momento del día Alondra va a conocer a su abuela Mimí!
Gracias por clamar con nosotros por la vida de Alondra.

Our little princess of pink lips is recovering slowly. We had a scare this afternoon, when all the numbers in the monitor dropped, but she is now stable. She had to have a blood transfusion and is still sedated. Tomorrow noon they might take her out of the respirator, to see how she copes. The surgeon is calm, he says all this is normal. The pediatrician says that the first 48 hours are critical. It's hard to know whom to listen! But our trust is in the one who created the heavens and the earth, as well as our little Alondra. He says, "Don't be afraid, just believe."
The doctor sent me home to get some sleep, so I'll obey. We'll be back in the hospital early tomorrow and sometime tomorrow Alondra will get to meet her grandma.

She had to have a blood transfusion and is still sedated. Tomorrow noon they might take her out of the respirator, to see how she copes. The surgeon is calm, he says all this is normal. The pediatrician says that the first 48 hours are critical. It's hard to know whom to listen! But our trust is in the one who created the heavens and the earth, as well as our little Alondra. He says, "Don't be afraid, just believe."
The doctor sent me home to get some sleep, so I'll obey. We'll be back in the hospital early tomorrow and sometime tomorrow Alondra will get to meet her grandma.

El test de H1N1 dio negativo (¡Gracias Señor!) y Alondra entró al quirófano a las 11 y media de la mañana. (El test de la doctora Tan dio positivo, así que otro doctor la suplantó.) La operación duró unas tres horas, hasta que el cirujano salió a contarnos que todo había ido bien (¿Están gritando conmigo?).
Ahora Alondra está en terapia intensiva recuperándose. Por ahora está conectada a un respirador y tiene muchísimos otros cables y cateteres. La van a mantener sedada por un tiempo, y van a ver como evoluciona. Sus pulmones no están acostumbrados a recibir tanta sangre, así que va a llevarle un tiempo adaptarse. Si todo va bien, el cirujano nos dice que le pueden dar el alta el viernes o sábado.
Por primera vez Alondra tiene los labios de color rosa. ¡Es muy hermosa nuestra hijita!
Damos gracias a Dios por su cuidado en su vida, por darnos su paz inmensa durante la operación, y por las oraciones y el amor de todos ustedes. Todavía queda camino por recorrer pero seguimos confiados y agradecidos.
Oren para que Alondra se recupere sin complicaciones. Oren para que el Señor nos de fuerzas (físicas!) en los días que vienen. Oren por Noemí que está volando para ayudarnos. Nuestra amiga Grace estuvo con nosotros hasta ahora y nos ayudó a cuidar a Timo estos últimos dos días. Damos gracias a Dios por ella.

The N1H1 test was negative (Thanks Lord!) and Alondra went into the operation theater this morning about 11:30. (Dr. Tan's test was positive, so another doctor came to help us with the surgery). The operation lasted for about three hours, time when the surgeon came out to tell us all had gone well! (Are you shouting with us?)
Alondra is now recovering in the ICU. She is breathing through a respirator and has many cables and things I don't know the names for connected to her. She is going to be sedated for a while, while they see how she evolves. Her lungs are not used to so much blood, so it will take a while for her to adapt. The surgeon says that she could be discharged by Friday if all goes well.
For the first time ever, Alondra has pink lips. She is a gorgeous little one!
We are so thankful for God's care over her life, for the peace he gave us during the surgery and for your love and prayers on our behalf. We still have a long road ahead, but we are thankful and continue to trust God.
Please pray Alondra will recover well. Pray God will give us the strength we will need for the next days. Pray for my mom, as she is flying right now to come and help us. Our friend Grace has been here with us all this while, and she helped in many ways, specially looking after Timo. We thank God for her!

Our friend Grace has been here with us all this while, and she helped in many ways, specially looking after Timo. We thank God for her!

Cirugía / Surgery
La cirugía está planeada para mañana a la mañana, en cuanto tengamos los resultados del análisis de gripe A de Alondra y de la Dr. Tan. Seguimos orando para que los dos den negativo, para que así puedan operar a Alondra y la doctora pueda estar ahí.
Así que les pedimos que oren para que los resultados den negativo y para que la operación se haga. Que Dios les de sabiduría al Dr. Shankar y a todo su equipo. Qué cubra a Alondra con su mano poderosa.
Los días de posoperatorio también van a ser difíciles. Gracias por orar por nosotros.

Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow, Monday, morning. We are still waiting for the results of Alondra's and Dr. Tan's H1N1 tests. We pray they are both negative so we can go ahead with the surgery and Dr. Tan can be there also.
So please pray for negative H1N1 test results and for a good surgery. May the Lord lead Dr. Shankar and his team. May He cover Alondra with his hand.
The days after the operation will be hard as well. Pray for us.

Domingo / Sunday
Novedades desde el hospital. Alondra sigue estable. Todavía tiene fiebre, pero está comiendo bien. Los análisis que le hicieron anoche no indican ninguna infección, y ahora estamos esperando el resultado del H1N1. Si es negativo, la operación se hace mañana. Si es positivo, probablemente también la operen mañana, pero el riesgo es mas alto y también lo que implica para el hospital. Puede que también la fiebre se deba a la medicación que le están dando, así que vamos a ver cómo reacciona sin ella.
Hoy vinieron a verla el cirujano y el cardiólogo. El cirujano está tranquilo con operarla en cualquier momento, pero por preacuación vamos a esperar los resultados de los análisis.
Oren para que el resultado de la gripe A sea negativo, tanto para Alondra como para la anestesista, así puede asistir en la operación.
Damos gracias a Dios por su presencia continua con nosotros, su paz, su consuelo y por su cuidado sobre Alondra. Gracias por sus oraciones.

Update from the hospital. Alondra is stable. She has a fever but is eating well. Last night's test don't show any infection. We are now waiting for results from the H1N1 test. If that is negative, surgery will take place tomorrow morning. If it's positive, we probably have to do the surgery anyway, but the risks and the implications in terms of security will be higher. Doctos also think that the drugs they are giving her can be the cause of the fever,
so they will try to see how well she does without it.
Today we met the surgeon, a really nice man. He is fine with having the surgery as soon as possible, but he will wait for the results as a precaution.
Please pray that the test for H1N1 will be negative, for Alondra and also for Dr. Tan, so she can be at the surgery.
We thank God for his continuous presence with us, for his peace, for comforting us and for looking after Alondra. Thanks for keeping on praying.
